big spender

6" x 6" oil on gessoed panel
~inspired by the Lockheed Lounge and a silkscreen by Andy Warhol~

Marc Newson’s Lockheed Lounge remains the most expensive chair ever sold. Designed in the mid-1980’s, the curving design takes its shape, as well as its name, from the aerospace industry. With only ten chairs produced, the Lockheed Lounge is highly sought after. In 2007, the bidding for one of these chairs skyrocketed to $1,500,000 at a Christie’s auction.

And to the highest bidder for Big Spender goes not only a fine portrait of the world’s most expensive chair, but an amusing story to tell at your next cocktail party.
