timeless
This dedication goes out to my favorite little artist, Sam. I think he was born with a marker in his hand, and now he has this obsession with clocks (and we all know how I feel about obsessions!). In particular, he loves clocks with pendulums, as evidenced here in these drawings.
Sam was kind enough to render my portrait recently. It's an incredible likeness, for those of you who have wondered what I look like. He's managed to capture the fact that I like more than one Guns-n-Roses song. Oh, Sweet Child O' Mine...

scent of a woman
The smell of spring wafting through my studio window has been intoxicating. I get this way every spring, inhaling and admiring the renewing earth as if I were experiencing it for the first time. The lilac tree, the lily of the valleys, the daffodils. Heaven.
So, why "The Figure Five in Gold" (1928) by Charles Demuth, you ask? Well, this juxtaposition is personal. My Granny's favorite perfume was Chanel no.5 and the only perfume she would wear. She had a beautiful and well-kept little garden where, among other flowers, lily of the valleys and lilacs flourished under her care. And now I'm lucky enough to have these two favorites in my backyard. She passed away 11 years ago and to this day, I cannot walk through my spring garden without thinking I detect just a hint of Chanel no.5.
